Communication is an interactive process whereby people seek to induce some form of change in attitude, belief, or behavior. (Moore, Hickson III and Stack, 2010, p. 5) It is the primary avenue that people use to send and receive messages through predetermined codes. Communication is broken down into verbal and nonverbal communication. Verbal communication is an oral interaction between individuals and considered to be an explicit method of communication. I am writing my five paragraph essay on what I like to call, the â€Å"World’s Greatest Move†, the 2009 Pixar animated story called Up. If you look deeper into this crowd proclaimed â€Å"Kid’s Movie† you will find hidden meanings to the movie. You will find sadnesses that you may not have noticed before, happiness in the characters, and deeper meanings to the locations. The first sadness we encounter in the movie is Ellie Fredricksen, Carl Fredricksen’s lifelong love, dying. In this part of the film you see the lovers going on a picnic just like they used to do when they were young which is all happy and you feel really happy inside. Then she falls, and cannot get to the top of the hill where they are having the picnic. It then skips to a scene of Ellie dying in the hospital, then it skips again to the funeral which makes you feel really sad. This all happens in a time span of about 10 mins. When I watch this section of the film, it makes me sad because it is like showing you a cute puppy that you’re excited to care about, watch it grow up and be happy, then all of a sudden taking it away from you and all of that short happiness and excitement you had built up towards that thing. The second sad part that comes into the film is when you witness Mr. Fredricksen being forced into retirement after becoming too old to work at selling balloons at the local zoo, and then evicted from his home. In this part of the film you see Mr. Fredricksen working, then a manager silently walking up to him and giving him the news that he should retire because he is getting really sad and old, and when he gets home he sees an urban development being built around him yet he refuses to sell his home. Then, when a worker named Steve accidentally damages his mailbox he injures Steve, where he then gets a visit from the local retirement home and evicted from his home for being a â€Å"public menace†. When I watch this section, I see how Mr. Fredricksen is just getting overwhelmed by one thing after another because that’s exactly how I feel at times. The third sadness we come across in this film is when we start to put the pieces together about how Russell, the earnest young Wilderness Explorer, does not have a father anymore, and how he lives with his mother and her boyfriend in an apartment. In this scene little Russell explains that he doesn’t have a dad to do activities with, how he is not allowed to have dogs in his apartment, and that he doesn’t call his mom’s boyfriend dad. When I see this part, I get really sad and think that little innocent deserves so much better than the life he has. You learn to love that fat little kid. All in all, the movie has many sad moments that are overlooked by the fact that it’s a kid’s movie. In this film you can also easily see the happiness in this movie such as Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Fredricksen falling in love, and Doug The Dog. First, just when you think that the movie couldn’t get any more bizarre, a chubby 8-year-old wilderness explorer named Russell hitches a ride on Carl’s house, and the two unlikely heroes go on an exotic adventure to the wild jungles of South America. Russell the wilderness explorer is endearingly innocent. Russell makes me feel really happy inside because they made him cute and fat. He also talks really innocently so that just adds to the fun. Secondly, Ellie first met Carl as a child when he wandered into her clubhouse. The two became close friends after realizing they shared a similar admiration for explorer Charles Muntz. Ellie made promises with Carl by saying â€Å"Cross your heart? â€Å". Eventually, Carl and Ellie were married, but were unable to have children. They constantly tried to arrange a trip to Paradise Falls, but every time something always happened to prevent it. After Carl finally managed to acquire a ticket, Ellie died of old age. This part in the movie makes me feel really happy, and a little sad because of the way they fell in love was really cute and funny. The third happiness we come across is Dug the dog. Along their trek toward the falls, Carl and Russell find a strange and very large bird, whom Russell dubs â€Å"Kevin,† and a talking dog named Dug who is hunting the bird. Russell wants to keep them, but Carl does not want any extra tag-a-longs. When a pack of mean dogs sent by Dug’s master show up to get the bird, Carl’s trip takes a whole new turn. As it turns out, the dogs belong to Charles Muntz, the adventurous explorer who inspired Carl and Ellie’s dreams of Paradise Falls. Dug is very funny and adds comic relief. Growing Up Fatherless Essay Growing up, all my friends had a father except for me. In the essay All Over but the Shoutin   Rick Braggs has the same issue. Sure everyone has a father but not every child knows him personally. I only went and visited my father two time year, if I was lucky. It would only be for a couple days at a time. He was never really a father to me. Even after being with him for a couple days, he was still a complete stranger to me. I always pondered what it would be like to have a father. Everyone in my family never had anything nice to say about him. I never really listened to them because I didnt want to believe that he was a bad person. One day I finally got to experience what having a father was like. Ever since I can remember, it has always just been my mom and I. There was never a strong father figure in my life since mine left when I was just three years old. He packed up his bags and left, like my mother and I were nothing. I didnt know my father, I didnt know what kind of food he liked, his favorite sports team, his favorite color, or if he ever loved my mom and I. I dont remember ever making him fathers day gifts or cards in grade school, or feeling the warmth of his arms around me. I was too young to remember anything about him. To me he was a mere shadow, a fuzzy memory that never seems to fail to creep into the back of my mind. In Braggs essay he says I thought that the man I would see would be the trim, swaggering, high-toned little rooster of a man who stared back at me from the pages of my mothers photo album, the young solider clowning around in Korea, the arrow-straight, good looking boy who posed beside my mother back before the fields and mop handle and the rest of it took her looks  . I do remember looking through photo albums that my grandma had and seeing my father. He looked just like a normal guy. I would always wonder about what he looked like but I could only look at the photos of him. In the photos he looked very happy and joyful. I wonder what exactly happened that made him leave. I remember it just like it was yesterday, I was on the same school bus that Ive always rode since I started school. It was a very hot Friday in the middle of April, so the bus stunk from all the sweaty teenagers. I always sat in the back because that where all the cool   kids sat. My best friend was sick that day so I had to sit by myself. My bus driver always played the radio loud on Fridays which was my favorite and I always looked forward to it. It was finally my stop so I got off the bus. A gust of warm wind hit my face once I stepped off the last step of the bus. I proceeded to my house where I noticed that my moms car was absent . I didnt think anything of it at the moment, so I picked up the spare key from under the door mat and went inside. An hour passed and my mom still wasnt home. I was sitting on the couch getting worried when I noticed a white truck pulling into our drive way. It was going very slow like whoever was driving wasnt too sure if this was the correct house they were looking for. I didnt recognize the truck at first but then my uncle (my fathers brother) came walking up to the door. I couldnt comprehend why he would be at my house. The only time I ever saw him was around the holidays when the whole family got together. He knocked repeatedly on the door so I answered quickly. Over the next couple days we hung out at the house and caught up. He asked about all kinds of things like he was trying to catch up for all the time that he had been out of my life. We got along very well and had a lot in common which totally took me by surprised. After a couple years of living with my father, I could honestly say he was and still is one of my best friends. But when my mom got sober and got a steady job I had the choice to move back in with her. I chose to move back, after making this choice I figured that my father would be mad because I was choosing her over him. He wasnt anger about my decision he was very understanding about it. While living with my father, he never once said he was sorry for leaving or gave an excuse as to why he left. I didnt expect this from him, but it would have been nice to hear. He never acted like he did anything wrong.   I can relate to his statement because my father never apologized either. Living with my father for a couple years was a real eye opener to me. I realized the he wasnt the bad guy that my family had made him out to be. I understand that our father and daughter bond wont be as strong as the girls that have always had their fathers in their lives, but I am grateful that he is on it now.

Delano’s racism can be understood most directly it seems to be a reflection of his upbringing in a somewhat liberal Northern racism that practice anti-slavery views (it’s important to remember Delano is from Massachusetts, a hotbed of anti-slavery activity during the period). The story suggests that Delano, like others who viewed slaves sympathetically, may have a weak recognition of the horrors of slavery and may consider himself the slaves’ friend, but such feelings depend on viewing himself as superior to the slaves and to the slaves staying in their appointed position of submission. In conclusion while Delano finds blacks utterly charming and fun-loving, fond of bright colors and of uniting industry with pastime, this admiration masks his deep-seated conviction that blacks are not entirely human. In fact, when in the midst of trying to understand the odd occurrences on the San Dominick, it briefly occurs to Delano that Cereno might be in league with the blacks, he dismisses the thought with a shudder: who ever heard of a white so far a renegade as to apostatize from his very species almost, by leaguing in against it with Negroes? (BC). This proves once again his overconfidence in his understanding limiting him from seeing the big picture that the slaves are controlling the situation. He can never imagine that the slaves are the one who thought up the grandiose plan, that he thinks Captain Cereno is orchestrating something gainst his kin. He fails to discern that the Spanish vessel is in fact in the hold of a complex, meticulously plotted mutiny, that the slaves have successfully revolted, and that the dutiful Babo is in fact the revolutionary in command. Delanos trusting and overconfidence in this regard is very nearly fatal, and in a way that the text explains, and that cri tics have frequently described, it is his concerning, unselfconscious, absolutely stubborn ideology of slaves and creates a benign racismhis offhand white supremacismthat drives and sustains this ignorance. Despite his several moments of deep suspicion, is his unmoved confidence that a slave like Babo, so naturally docile, so ideally suited to those watchful and pleasant avocations about ones person, could never surpass the unaspiring contentment of a limited mind common to all Africans (BC).
